Our candles

Established in 2024, Fragrance by Mauri was created for pure love of candles and quality scents. Mauri's creations are more than just candles.  As the candles burn, they take you on a journey by releasing captivating fragrances that dance through the air, weaving tales of comfort and familiarity.  Like mist covering the land.

These candles represent childhood memories, a longing for the homeland and cherished loved ones.  Each scent was carefully chosen to describe those things that matter most.

Our story

We are a Māori-owned small business, built not only on a passion for handcrafted candles, but with a deeply personal purpose at heart.  This venture was born from a mother’s love, a way to support my son’s journey by giving him the chance to attend a specialised school where his unique way of learning is understood, embraced, and gently nurtured as a young boy on the autism spectrum.

It is my greatest hope that with the right environment, he will grow into a confident, capable, and independent young man, empowered to reach his full potential.

Half of all proceeds go directly towards producing our products, while the other half is dedicated to supporting his education pathways.  This business is driven by love, the kind of love only a parent can have for their child — strong, unwavering, and filled with hope for a better future.

 

Our logo

Our logo is a visual representation of whānau and our connection to each other and land, expressed through the flowing form of a koru.  The intertwining lines within the design symbolise whakapapa — the lineage and ancestry that shape who we are.  At the heart of the logo is a flame, representing both the light of a candle and the timeless story of Maui and Hinemahuika, the goddess of fire.  Together, these elements reflect the warmth, identity, and cultural depth behind our brand.
